Grade 5/6 pointe work is exclusively for those who wish to participate in pointe work who studying grade five or six.

Participation is by invitation only and is based on readiness, ensuring every dancer begins pointe work safely and at the appropriate stage of their development.

The programme provides specialist training to help students develop the strength, technique, artistry, confidence, and understanding required for safe and successful pointe work practice.

Training focuses on building strength, alignment, technical precision, artistry, and performance quality while supporting students as they progress towards higher-level ballet training, examination pathways, vocational opportunities, and future dance goals.

Eligibility

Attendance is by invitation and teacher approval only.

Students must demonstrate the required technical standard, strength, alignment, commitment, attendance, and physical readiness before being permitted to commence pointe work training.

Students must also be enrolled in a graded ballet class in order to participate in Pointe Work training.

Progression onto pointe is never determined by age alone.

Every dancer develops at a different rate, and readiness for pointe work is based entirely on individual strength, technique, alignment, maturity, and physical development.

All decisions regarding pointe readiness remain at the discretion of the teaching team.

The health, safety, and long-term wellbeing of our dancers will always be our highest priority.

Due to the specialist nature of pointe work training, regular attendance is essential.

Students are expected to attend classes consistently and approach their training with maturity, commitment, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Regular attendance helps ensure safe progression and continued technical development.

Pointe Shoes

Students must have a pair of professionally fitted pointe shoes purchased from a reputable dance retailer.

Please do not purchase pointe shoes without prior approval from Miss Judith.

Ribbons and elastics must be securely sewn onto pointe shoes before attending class.

This can be completed at home or arranged through the school with a minimum of 48 hours' notice. A charge of £10 applies for this service.

As pointe shoes naturally wear down over time, students will be required to replace their shoes when they become worn or "dead". Continuing to dance in dead pointe shoes can compromise both safety and technical development.

The lifespan of pointe shoes varies significantly between dancers and depends on factors such as strength, training frequency, and individual foot mechanics. Families should be aware that replacement shoes will be required periodically throughout a dancer's pointe training journey.

Students should not continue to dance in shoes that have been deemed unsafe or unsuitable by the teaching team.

Uniform & Presentation Standards

Students are expected to maintain exceptionally high standards of presentation.

The correct regulation uniform must be worn to all classes, along with neatly presented hair and the appropriate ballet footwear.

As students progress through advanced levels of training, personal responsibility and professional standards become increasingly important.

A neat and well-presented appearance demonstrates respect for the art form, the teacher, fellow students, and the learning environment.
